Two classic sea kayaks, Yakima Rack & Roll trailer, Werner carbon fiber paddles and much more. $2500

If you are looking for a small, inexpensive, plastic boat to paddle around in for an hour or so on a local lake or pond…keep looking, this is not the ad for you. This is for someone who either is or wants to be a serious, big water kayaker. Father time has caught up with me and it’s time to pass the torch. The core of this sale is two absolute classic sea kayaks on a Yakima, completely refurbished, kayak trailer (current cost $2,400) complete with saddles (which would be extras).

The yellow one is a Valley Nordkapp RM. Google it and you’ll find that this is a legendary, expedition kayak. By that I mean they were originally built for an expedition around the north cape of Norway. They have rounded Cape Horn and circumnavigated Great Britain, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. I’ve personally paddled this one all over the Sea of Cortez, around Vancouver Island and throughout most of Florida’s waters, including the Everglades and the Keys. This is the roto-molded version, not as pretty as the composite ones, but practically bombproof and extremely fast. It was designed to carry a load and without it would require an experienced paddler, but it comes with an aftermarket ballast system that makes it much friendlier for a paddler of intermediate skill and still doable for a beginner.

The green and white one is the Dagger Meridian Sk, a composite of fiberglass and Kevlar. Slightly smaller than the Nordkapp it is famed for its maneuverability and ease of handling and, while not the full-on expedition craft that the Nordkapp is, it’s great for a weekend or more of cruising and camping. It should not be considered for river paddling where rock strewn rapids abound. In fact, both kayaks are simply too fast for rapids and would be difficult to control, although I have done it with the Nordkapp. Both kayaks have retractable skegs.

As any sea kayaker can tell you, the kayak may be the big dollar item but the necessary extras add up fast. We’re talking paddles, PFDs, safety equipment, storage racks, covers, skirts, expedition equipment, sailing rig and cruising manuals, etc. It can be seen in the pictures but there is too much to be listed here.

I can provide a detailed list for those interested. It will easily come to thousands of dollars worth of stuff, the carbon fiber paddles alone come to just under $1,000. This is quality stuff. I really prefer to sell all of this as a package and Tucson is not a great market for sea kayaks, which is why I priced this package so low. Please, no low ball offers, I’m willing to wait. When the right person sees this it will go.
